Dear Pregnant Mumma,
I see you.
I see your strength.
I see your loneliness and struggles.
I know this is not the pregnancy you had imaged… you may have waited years, months or even days to see those two lines on the test and now you’re pregnant in one of the most unique and challenging times.
I know you feel alone in this journey… the excitement of sharing your pregnancy with people in person and the joys of watching your bump grow.
I know you’re feeling the weight of the world around you right now… in the midst of a global pandemic and huge social uprising. The world is changing!
I know somedays you feel guilty for your joy and happiness…
BUT know this.
Your pregnancy has come at a time where we have all been forced to slow down. There’s no rushing for the trains, busy social calendars and tight deadlines… Instead we’ve been giving the opportunity to work from home (hopefully) and spend more time with our partner/ parents. We can create our own little love bubble and take time to nourish, read and be with our babies.
Especially those of you in your first trimester… you have the joys of your own bathroom and not having to hide your nausea from curious colleagues!
2020 is the year the world is demanding change… change for how we treat the environment, how we look after ourselves and how we live with others. I feel like we’re in the midst of a huge revolution!
This is the world we’ve needed to create for centuries! And we get the opportunity to bring the next generation into a world which is so passionate, so caring and so damn determined!
Everywhere you look you see friends, neighbours and colleagues fighting for each other, standing up for each other. We can see the world coming together as one big community… As it should be.
We can see everyone slowing down, going for cycles, runs and daily walks. Taking time to make amazing dinners that really nourish the soul. We’re finally taking the time to listen to our bodies and take care of them too.
We’ve discovered more of our local area’s than ever before! Our commutes are down and our connection with nature is up! We hear the sounds of the birds, feel the warmth of the sun and watch those rain showers. We’re finally listening to you, mother nature.
And even though you may feel alone at home, know that there is a whole community of pregnant women out there… going through all of this with you. Find your community online, join a prenatal class, an Instagram live or even a community Facebook group. Know that you’ll never be alone in this journey.
Take each day as it comes…
Celebrate the wins… the first kicks, your scans and even just growth spurts of your bump. Don’t feel guilty about sharing your joy with others! It may just bring a smile to someone else’s face too.
And finally Mumma… Don’t underestimate how incredible you are!
You’re growing a human! Your body knows exactly what to do and how to take care of this little bubba. It is nothing short of a miracle. Celebrate it everyday!
You’ve got this!
